
Hospital staff alerted officers that a woman had been admitted on Monday (May 12) at 2.23am, after ingesting the substance in Mill Place.
The woman, in her 20s, remains in hospital with life-changing injuries.
Police are investigating the matter and as a result, the cemetery, which is near to Mill Place, has been cordoned off for two days.
A spokesperson for Metropolitan Police said: “At 02:23hrs on Monday, 12 May, hospital staff alerted officers to the admission of a woman who had ingested a corrosive substance in Mill Place, Kingston.
“The woman in her 20s had been taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service. She remains there with life-changing injuries.
“Enquiries continue into the circumstances. If you have any information relating to the incident please contact the Met via 101, quoting 591/12May.
“A scene remains in place at Kingston Cemetery, Bonner Hill Road, Kingston while initial investigations take place.”
