Which south west London borough had the most crime last month?

South west London, which includes Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Lambeth, Kingston-upon-Thames, Richmond-upon-Thames and Wandsworth, saw an overall fall in reported crime in February.

A total of 11,130 offences were logged in February, down 5.5 per cent from 11,782 recorded in January.

Lambeth recorded the highest number of offences in February, with 2,776 crimes reported.

Theft was the most common offence in the borough, with 974 incidents, followed by violence against the person with 752 reports.

Vehicle crime also remained an issue, with 197 offences recorded.

There were also 156 cases of arson and criminal damage, 145 public order offences and 144 drug offences, 127 robberies.

Croydon had the second highest crime total, with 2,591 offences in February, representing a 9.3 per cent decrease from the previous month.

As in Lambeth, violence against the person and theft were the most frequently recorded crimes, with 857 and 552 reports respectively.

Vehicle offences were the next most common at 246, followed by 210 cases of arson and criminal damage.

Wandsworth ranked third, with 1,967 offences reported during the month, down 4.2 per cent compared to January.

The borough recorded 578 incidents of violence against the person and 515 theft offences, alongside 215 vehicle crimes.

Arson and criminal damage, burglaries and public order offences were also recorded in significant numbers, with 144, 124, and 111 cases respectively.

Sutton was next in the rankings, with 999 offences reported in December.

This included 348 cases of violence against the person, 212 thefts and 101 vehicle offences.

Police also recorded 80 public order offences, and 57 incidents of arson and criminal damage.

In Merton, 983 offences were recorded in February.

The most common crimes were violence against the person, with 332 reports, and theft, with 206.

Kingston-upon-Thames and Richmond-upon-Thames recorded the lowest crime levels in south west London during February.

Kingston saw 938 offences, including 331 cases of violence against the person and 217 thefts.

Richmond recorded 876 offences, making it the borough with the lowest total.

Often regarded as one of south London’s safest areas, Richmond saw 228 incidents of violence against the person, 215 thefts and 136 vehicle offences.
