Do south Londoners support Sadiq Khan? – Poll

Sadiq Khan has served as Mayor of London since 2016 and made history as the first person to win a third term in the role.

According to the latest YouGov poll, Khan is the sixth most popular Labour politician, but he is disliked by 50 per cent of the country.

His leadership continues to shape the capital, including south London boroughs such as Croydon, Sutton, Merton, Richmond, Wandsworth, and Kingston.

In these areas, Khan’s policies have had a direct impact.

His expanded Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ), which now covers all of inner London and parts of outer south London, has been hailed by supporters for improving air quality and encouraging cleaner vehicles.

However, some residents and small businesses have voiced concerns over the extra costs of compliance and limited public transport alternatives.

Khan’s 2025‑2029 policing plan aims to boost neighbourhood-level patrols, particularly in Croydon and Merton, where residents have expressed concerns about anti-social behaviour and street crime.

Transport improvements continue across south London, including expanded bus priority lanes in Sutton and Wandsworth, safer cycling infrastructure in Kingston and Richmond, and Oyster card discounts for low-income residents.

According to City Hall data, there were 8,749 fewer violent crimes leading to injury in the 12 months to August 2025, a nearly 12 per cent drop.

Yet Khan remains a polarising figure.

Some residents in busy south London boroughs say that, despite falling crime rates, issues like phone theft and anti-social behaviour still affect their daily lives.

Others continue to debate the ULEZ expansion, with opinions divided between environmental benefits and financial burdens

Khan has hinted he intends to run for a fourth term and remain Mayor until 2032 if Londoners continue to support him.
