The murder of Sarah Everard, allegedly carried out by a male Met Police officer, has provoked anger, fear and emotion nationwide, and brought many out onto the streets in protest.
The 33-year-old, who’s body we now know has been found in Kent woodlands, is not a lone victim. Even in south London alone, several other woman have died at the hands of a man in just the past year.
Every year to mark International Women’s Day, Labour MP Jess Phillips stands up in the House of Commons and lists all the women who have been killed by men in the last 12 months.
This year, on March 8, it took more than three minutes to read the list of names which came to 117.
The event was made even more sombre by the ongoing disappearance of Ms Everard, but her name is now sadly likely to be added to that list.
Also on the list were the names of nine women who have been killed in south London by men in the past year, and we’ve taken a look at the their stories.
